Upon reaching the page, the first wall post I saw is from a familiar contestant asking for votes. So I clicked on the link to find out what contest it is and which ill-informed company is still running such pure voting contests.

I reach the eXplorerkid FB Page and realise there is a photo voting contest going on. As usual, with most voting contests, there would be a circus. Fake profiles, mad commenting etc. Suddendly, all the computer illiterate Uncles and Aunties, Grandpas and Grandmas will start creating FB accounts. Ha

Oh, and now there are armies and gangs too!!!

Go look through the photo entries if you like. There are basically 2 contestants going all out for the prize. Both have crossed 300 votes. But what kind of people are voting for them? It is very easy to tell. Just look at the profiles of those who have voted for them. If anybody is cheating, it will be very obvious, unless of course the company subscibes to this champion statement that

It is Chic Magazine's - Snap-A-Taxi Contest!

The Grand Prize is a cool TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS!

Here are the contest mechanics:

Every time you spot a taxi with the CHIC ad, snap a clear photo of the ad and license plate, and MMS it to 9009-0404. The person who snaps the most taxis (each must have a different license plate to qualify as a separate entry) by 31 Mar 2010, wins $10,000!

The organisers suggested a tip! Rope in a few friends and pool your entries using just one mobile phone no! Share the winnings!

Hmm.... Sounds like a GREAT IDEA!

So for the fun of it plus the cash prize of course, shall we all team up? =)

How do we do it? Ok, here's the plan.

1. All of us will go spot taxis with CHIC ad and snap a clear photo of the ad and license plate.

2. MMS the picture to Dallas at 96542068, with your name, nickname (Optional), bank account number and the taxi number that you manage to photograph.

OR
Email it to Dallas at cornflict@hotmail.com with your name, nickname (Optional), bank account number and the taxi number that you manage to photograph in the subject field. Email subject header: "Chic Mag - Let's Huat Together contest! - Taxi No. SHAxxxxH"

3. Dallas will MMS all the photos over to Chic through his handphone when we surpass the current leading score of 18 entries!

And how do we split the money if we win? For each qualified photo you send in and is sucessfully accepted by Chic, you'll get $200. There is no limit to the number of photos you can send in. The more you manage to spot (which either mean you are more hardworking or simply more lucky) the more you get. I think that's fair.

Because each photo must have a different license plate to qualify as a separate entry, this will be on a first come first serve basis. For example if 2 person MMS in photos of licence plate SHA8888H on the same day, then the person getting the $200 (if we win) will be the one who had sent in the MMS earlier.

At the end of each day, we will update who (Your nickname) has sent in what (which taxi number) so we will know which taxi numbers have already been snapped and this also serve as an acknowledgement for the sender.

Should we win at the end of the contest period, Dallas will go collect the prize and then transfer your potion of the prize money to your bank account accordingly!

I'm not sure how many taxi are there out there that is plastered with Chic Ads. Rather than asking Chic and not sure when they are going to reply or if there's even a fixed number, I thought $200 per photo is a fair amount to get for the simple work of snapping and MMSing a photo over.

So if all in all, we manage to come up tops with say a combined total of 30 photos, there will be a payout of 30 x $200 = $6000. For the extra $4000, we will donate it to charity. If there are any charity organisations that you keenly support, please feel free to let us know.

However, if there are more than 50 taxis out there and in the end, say for example we have a combined total of 80 photos, then we will split the 10k evenly and each photo will get $10,000 / 80 = $125.

To do internet bank transfer, all that is needed is just your name and bank account number. So all you need to do is just to send us that. You don't need to send us anything more than that like your IC number, telephone or address. Should we win, the prize money will be wired over. Please send us your POSB, DBS, OCBC and UOB bank account numbers, basically local bank accounts please.

If you are familiar with internet banking, you will know that we can't do anything funny just because we have your bank account number (except to send you more money ;p) but if you are not comfortable with that, I think it might be better if you skip this contest with us.

I guess you need to have a certain level of trust in us that we will be fair and if you can't be sure of our integrity, I will also suggest you give this a miss.

Of course please feel free to ask if you have any questions.

OK. Now that all the TnC and mechanics are spelt out, who wants in? :)
