Very nice to receive all your entries and hear what you have to say about the blog.
You folks are funny la :) I'm so tickled by some of your responses. Thank you for all the feedback and suggestions on how I can improve the blog. Thanks for all the kind words too. They really warmed my heart :) There are some things that I want to say too in response to some of your comments. I will reproduce some of them here (in edited version) and don't worry, you'll be addressed by your nicknames not your actual names.
Starting with...
ZR Tan:
I simply love your blog and you inspired me to create one . i had been following your blog since 2007 and had won various small prizes such as free white wines , $50 oishii vouchers , Disney Membership card and various movie tickets...
CJ: Which is your blog? Tell us. We go visit :) Congrats on your wins!
E Goh:
Maybe can include promotions as well on certain topic such as food buffet? As Singaporean loves food, I think there is a market for it. If it works out, maybe the organizer can pay you for some advertising fee and promote their ‘makan area’ and giving your readers discount. I love the daily e-mail that is sent to us informing us of the updated contests. Thanks.
CJ: Hey E, there are quite a few promotions websites out there actually. Such as...
http://tualobang.blogspot.com/
http://deathcoth.blogspot.com/
http://livinginsingaporetoday.com/
http://salesg.blogspot.com/
http://www.greatdeals.com.sg/
As for food buffet blog, I haven't seen any yet. Yeah, I think this is an area that has yet to be covered too. So for those who want to start a blog and hopefully make some pathetic money out of it, you may want to take on this idea. Hope you are not suggesting the food buffet blog idea with me in confidence? :)
Well, without our sunshine co-author CL, this blog would have closed long ago under the weight of the many many contest posts to put up :) I can barely manage so since there is no way I can include covering food buffets in my blog, I thought I will just share this with others. Hope you don't mind.
For the rest who will like to receive contest updates by email, you can also enjoy the "service" by subscribing to the blog feeds. Simply submit your email address at the section on the left hand column, above the Nuffnang ad.
FMVH:
I love the blog. Why? Cause I won loads of stuff after using it! It is really LUCKY! Go CJ!
CJ: Congrats FMVH! You are lucky la, not the blog. The blog haven't won anything yet. Hahaha... U think, the blog can win something this year, like some kind of award? haha... *Super shameless*
D Woo:
Exceptionally organized & neat, user friendly & easy to search for stuff, BEST local contest blog but sometimes I only receive email alerts when contest is over.
CJ: Thanks D for the kind words. Ok. It's true. The email alerts has a time lag. It's not immediate. I don't know what I can do about that. Anybody knows?
YT Chua has a suggestion
If the blog is sorted according to end date instead of month, it would be easier for people.
CJ: It's true. I will love that too. Thanks for the suggestion. Now I need a solution. Anybody knows how that can be achieved, without us having to "label" every single post by date?
MY Seck also has a suggestion
An improvement that Contest Junkie can be sorted via many categories such as by closing date or source (e.g. newspapers).
CJ: Ooh, u folks really want closing date sorting huh? Help! Anyone can help set that up and teach me how to do it? The next thing. Why will you like source of contests to be sorted too, MY?
E Sia:
I find the blog so comprehensive and some of the comments halirious. So whenever, I'm stressed out at work, your blog is always a welcome respite.
CJ: Indeed. Some of the comments are really hilarious. Some of your entries are really funny too. I had many good laughs. You folks, really light up my day la :)
BX Chua:
A great hangout for contest lovers (like me). We can interact and share contests. Share our joy (when we win) and complains (when we win and didnt get our prizes). 17 words excluding those in brackets (wish i could do this for summary in my sch days)
CJ: Wah clever ley, BX hahahah.... To keep it under 20 words, just bracket some of the additional words up right... ;p Hahah
To Vee:
Your very honest entry in Singlish and Hokkien mixed totally cracked me up! :) Among other things, you have 2 qs and here's my reply...
Vee: Why not make the blog brighter?
CJ: The blog not bright enough??
Vee: Words a bit too small too.
CJ: I think so too leh. Ok I'll try making it bigger the next time? :)
D Tan:
Love the unselfish concept in Contest Junkie's blog spreading the fair share and chance of winning contests! Keep it up.
CJ: I love it too. I have said this many times and I am happy to say it again and again. Thanks to you readers, for your generosity in sharing contest leads and sometimes answers with fellow contest junkies and also helping each other out at the chatbox. Nowadays you folks are super fast some more. I can receive a newsletter (with contest details) and within the next 5 minutes, it is posted up by one of you at the Kopitiam already! =)
KW Lee:
I like your blog cos the update is fast and the links are cool, and you are sincere. The only thing that I dislike is that the contests are so hard to win.....
CJ: Thanks Lee for your kind words. I think contests that are easy to win are usually not worth the prize. If they are easy to join and the prize is attractive, the chance of winning will be super duper slim. I agree the contests here are harder to win but they will be more worthwhile for the effort. Contests that are posted up here tend to be more skill based with a shot at more attractive prizes.
If you just wanna enjoy the feeling of winning more often, it seems like movie tickets are one of the easiest things to win. You can go to any of the other contest blogs found in the "Gambling Is Bad. Joining contest is better" section. There are tons of movie contests there and the readers seem to be winning things all the time :)
QT Ng:
It's informative, concise, and straight-to-the-point! Not to forget the occasional tips on how to increase chances of winning, and the contest junkie ratings of every contest! =)
CJ: Oh. You mean you read the ratings? ;p Opps ;p Most of the time, I just anyhow whack a number one leh. Ha... Dun kill me! ;p I mean I do have a rating system of some sorts but that is really according to my personal opinion and preference for joining certain type of contests and going for certain type of prizes. They are quite biased ;p CL's ratings standards is probably also different from mine =)
AK Leong:
Likes: Shows that people are not selfish because the bloggers and some readers are willing to share their lobangs with the rest of the world
CJ: Indeed :)
Dislike: It doesn't categorize the contests into e.g. win movie tickets/win travel packages etc. If there are categories, it's easier to search for the contests i want to join =)
CJ: Really? You will find that useful? May I ask what categories do you normally want to win or if it's easier for you to answer, what type of category of prizes will you not be interested in?
YL Neo:
Contest Junkie helps me to decide whether I should waste time joining by giving me valuable feedbacks and precious ratings. =)
CJ: Oh shit. Haha. Ok ok. I shall consider more carefully when I do the ratings ;p heheh
YC:
Really support contestjunkie blog and hope it will exist forever!! it's always the first website i'll visit once i logon the internet as it's well updated with straightforward and interesting descriptions and links! :)
CJ: Ok. Confirm, chop, stamp. You are a bona fide Contest Junkie to the point of no return. hahah
J Lim:
First hand info with answers for almost all the contests in S'pore.
CJ: J, thanks. But actually, increasingly I am not supplying answers. I just feel that those who don't put in the effort to search for the answers don't quite deserve to win ley. It seems a bit unfair to those who bother to put in the effort, sometimes hours of it. Also many a times, the company organising the contest is actually making use of this avenue (holding a contest) to get people to understand their product better or familiarise themselves with their website. By supplying answers directly, I feel it also defeats the companies efforts. The companies may be giving out prizes but they also have marketing objectives to meet and because they are nice enough to give out prizes, I don't want to ruin it for them.
If there's a chain of answers to look for and say anyone is short of one answer, I will be happy to help (provided I'm joining and have searched for the answer myself). If anyone ask for clues or hints, I am sure other readers and not only I, will help too. But if anyone just ask for answers when goggle can easily throw it up, then urm... sorry, I think they will be getting silence.
Goh YP:
Improvements: Add another tag to them: simply online, photo, writing, video, and so or?
CJ: Ok!
R Wong:
I love to enter contests, especially those in NTUC. The best prizes i won are 3 nokia handphones, a trip for 2 to london for a week on Singapore Airlines worth $12000 1 ipod , 1 HP computer desktop, 2 Smirnoff vodkas and countless letters from SPH magazines (every month also got win ) HeHe!
I believed if you at least bother to write your name, you can win .
CJ: How very true! N gosh! You have won so many many prizes and they are big prizes! I now officially crown you as the ultimate, super duper heng, I-am-so-jealous-I-want-to-kill-you prize winner we have here at Contest Junkie! hahaha ;p
YC Gwee:
I will be able to win some fabulous prizes. And able to understand more about the brands/ products show in Contest Junkie blog
CJ: Actually I thought you folks don't really read my ramblings if they are not directly related to contests but you do! hahaha... Ok and you should. They are not ramblings. I talk sense one ok =)
To L Wu:
Ok you read the ratings too. And sorry to disappoint you. I'm not providing much answers these days. And yes yes, I am a girl. It's ok. You are the nth person (I lost count) who thought I am a guy :)
Some other kind words....
RX:
Well-organized and details. Lots of interaction with people, which make the blog alive! :D
H Tan:
I love visiting the Contest Junkie blog because of the concise details on the prizes to be won and what makes the blog site attractive are the pictorials in the blogsite. Pictures speak a thousand words!
Violet:
It's lovely with all the different prizes, and has a fun-loving writer like you! It's the most amazing blog ever!
J Teo:
Life's dull without Contest Junkie. Brain wrecking for contests makes me more funky. You've rocked my world.
J Wong:
I've been a faithful follower of your blog since last year and have definitely seen it grow and improve alot!
Janice:
contest junkie is a great one-stop contest page for everyone. easily accessible and contest are always updated. I think you guys did a great job and should be commended on your effort! keep it up!
Now, there's one thing that quite a number of you mentioned - You like because got freebies.
And I am thinking. Got meh? But this is not a freebies blog ley. And a few at the kopitiam has been asking us to update freebies. What freebies? I don't believe in freebies. I believe in skills, seizing opporutnities and fair play.
Most of the prizes here are not freebies leh. You have to "earn" them by taking photos, writing essay, search for answers etc. From how I see it, contest joining is more like a sport (and sometimes investment - gotta pay for stamps, smses, buy lottery etc) rather than getting freebies isn't it? You've got to work for it. Sometimes, it's a bit more work. Other times it is as easy as just submitting your details in a form. But in almost all cases, they are not freebies. (As in they are not there for you to freely take).
So what freebies are you all talking about? If you are talking about free product samples, there isn't much around too. And those are product samples. The company send you once. Usually just a small satchel. If you like the product, you buy it the next time. Nothing is really free for the taking isn't it? If there are, the company will go broke ley.
Ok ok.....
Now now....
Here are the results.
And the lucky folks are *Drum roll*.....

Noelle Goh
